CRIN is a connector and convener of individuals and organizations dedicated to advancing the development and adoption of clean technology, to assist Canada's hard-to-abate industries in achieving net-zero goals. This involves showcasing Canadian technologies globally, fostering knowledge-sharing, and facilitating collaboration for optimal outcomes. CRIN had the privilege of hosting a pavilion at COP28, the largest international climate platform where we offered our members the opportunity to share their message. We are proud of the diverse and inclusive activities led by our members in our dedicated space.
77 member organizations collaborated with us to organize 32 informative, thought-provoking, and engaging events and panel discussions, featuring 90 presenters from across Canada's innovation ecosystem and beyond. Additionally, CRIN facilitated the virtual participation of 32 more members.
Five sessions focused on Indigenous participation in industrial projects, including a fireside chat between Alberta Premier Smith and Chana Martineau, CEO of the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation, in CRIN's larger presentation space.
Five sessions on CCS, including one in CRIN's larger presentation space with Alberta Premier Smith, Saskatchewan Premier Moe and Newfoundland and Labrador Environment Minister Davis.
Five sessions on methane detection and abatement technology, including available testing facilities in Alberta.
Three sessions on the importance of multi-sector collaboration for enabling innovation for net zero technology development.
Two sessions on progress in climate-smart agriculture for net emissions reduction.
Two sessions focused on existing and emerging carbon markets.
As well as individual sessions on
Women leading the energy transition
Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)
Lithium extraction
The value of the Ocean economy for net zero emissions
Social innovation to empower local communities to achieve net zero ambitions
Youth education for innovators of tomorrow
Feedback from our members who participated in Dubai has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the CRIN pavilion as a comfortable space for all Canadians, partners, friends, and guests to convene, connect, engage in critical conversations, and cool off from the intense outdoor temperatures. Numerous participants are already planning their involvement for next year, with others expressing interest in joining a future CRIN pavilion.
As we reflect on CRIN's presence at COP28, the full extent of our impact will take time to measure. However, we are excited about the stronger connections forged with our participating members and the progress made in informing federal and provincial government delegations about the impactful climate reduction work happening within CRIN's membership.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all of the members and presenters who joined us on this journey. Your level of engagement had a significant impact on our ability to tell Canada’s exciting energy innovation story to the world. Taking on such a monumental task would not have been possible without your support and participation.
