Join us on October 30th in person at the Energy Transition Centre or via zoom for a conversation focused on What Makes a Good Quantum Computing Project - CNRL's Tailings Pond Project as a Case Study.
Quantum Computing is a fast-growing field, with recent technological advances and optimistic hardware roadmaps suggesting real quantum advantage in the not-too-distant future. At the same time, current quantum hardware is limited, and near-term experiments on quantum computers seem unlikely to display superclassical performance. Then what is the need for, and point of, current quantum computing projects? And what makes one successful? Using Quantum City’s recent collaboration with CNRL as a case study we’ll discuss these questions, as well as suggesting some principles that can help guide other quantum computing projects going forward.
The format for this event is as follows:
8:00 - 8:30am: In-Person Check in and Networking
8:30 - 9:30am: Hybrid Presentation and Q&A
9:30 - 10:00am: In-person Networking
Presenters:
Adam Bene Watts earned his BSc from McGill University, his PhD at MIT studying quantum algorithms, and previously worked as a postdoc at the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo. Currently he is a Scientist-in-Residence at Quantum City, where his work focuses on developing industry-relevant quantum computing projects.
John-Paul Portelli is the Lead of Technology Scouting at Canadian Natural Resources. Focused on finding solutions to technical challenges related to safe, reliable operation.
