The Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN), a Canadian not-for-profit organization, is looking for an energetic, collaborative, and trusted professional with a vision and passion to be part of an organization that is driven to make things happen and to make a difference for our world. 

We are looking for a team member to be part of the technology enablement team growing the diverse portfolio of technology theme areas to be a network of clean oil and gas energy innovation. You will be part of team with diverse backgrounds and skills, and national scope with regional, national, and global impact. CRIN is a matrixed, member organization with operations based in Calgary, Alberta, and serving more than 3,200 members across Canada. 


The role: 

The Technology Enablement Community Builder role is a contractual position based in Calgary, Alberta and is a member of the CRIN Operations Team led by the Director of Operations and reports to the Technology Enablement function lead. 

The Technology Enablement Community Builder is a key member of the CRIN Operations team working with and across the Technology & Theme Enablement Committee (TEC), Technology Theme Teams, the Chair of the Technology Enablement Sub-Committee (TEC Chair), CRIN operations team in membership engagement and outreach, communications, theme and sector support, events management, and the Director of Operations, while collaborating with other functions across the organization.  

This position’s major responsibility is building resilient and sustained pan-Canadian communities of technology enablement for CRIN’s seven (7) clean oil and gas energy innovation and technology deployment theme focus areas.  This includes the coordination and management of a portfolio of technology-based projects and initiatives and innovation ecosystem development work.  The oil and gas energy theme areas includreducing environmental footprints (water, land, air emissions management, novel hydrocarbon extraction), low emissions value-added products, cleaner fuels, and the digital transformation of oil and gas.

  • Lead development of strategy and implementation to undertake effective community building across CRIN’s technology themes, sectors, and key stakeholders to achieve CRIN’s network building goals and vision 
  • Steward ecosystem-wide integration efforts that map, connect, engage and build Themes and Sectors; work within, and across the Themes and Sectors enabling and supporting engagement building capacity within the themes identifying additional champions and participants and building resiliency for future sustained functionality across the Themes and Sectors 
  • Engage across CRIN’s themes to identify and support impactful initiatives of broad interest to the Network that reduce barriers to innovation and clean oil and gas energy technology development and adoptionsuch as matching-making capabilitiesshowcasing technologies, and identifying industry challenges in facilitated sessions with working groups across virtual and real platforms  
  • Support the progression of research development and deployment (RD&D) projects and initiatives worthy of completion and investment that are aligned to CRIN’s key performance metrics and identified to be of impactful importance to Canada’s clean oil and gas energy goals 
  • Monitor, assess, and report innovation ecosystem effectiveness, and develop and execute recommendations focused on building a stronger oil and gas innovation ecosystem and extending the reach and value of the network to its members 
 You will use your expertise to: 
  • Cultivate a sense of belonging; gather input across the themes and sectors to develop ecosystem-wide technology solutions and approaches to meet Canada’s net-zero objectives for the oil and gas sector and beyond 
  • Liaise with technology theme teams on a consistent basis to identify community needs across the network, build the community, and engage new and existing members 
  • Build teams across the themes with active and broad sector engagement 
  • Coordinate projects and initiatives across the Network with champions and theme teams, as required 
  • Collaborate with the technology theme teams, membership engagement and outreach and operations team peers to engage the clean oil and gas energy innovation community  
  • Support the Operations Team to meet its commitments and contribute to reporting of commitments and achievements 
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as reasonably requested by CRIN from time to time in connection with the general objectives of the role with the spirit of a start-up in a dynamic environment 

We’d like to review your application if you have 

  • Proven skills in community buildinginfluence, and activating a network, which may include a demonstrable and active clean (energy) technology community 
  • Ability to build and develop communities across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders, including profiling stakeholder groups for targeted and active engagementpromoting ideas effectively, identifying, developing, and engaging champions across a network with shared values, to invest time and effort towards common goals 
  • 10+ years Technology, Innovation, Oil & Gas, and/or Environmental Policy experience 
  • 10+ years Technology Program Planning & Project Management expertise 
  • Knowledge and Skill connecting and enabling collaboration across academia-government-industry across TRL 2-9 across sectors, including end users, investors, professionals, academics  
  • Ability to lead, coach, gain support, and leverage skills from diverse peer staff team, or network members where no formal reporting relationship exists 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, autonomously, and towards agreed objectives and outcomes 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including ability to develop and communicate data, perform analysis, assimilate outcomes/results, and create impact reports using appropriate tools and methods 
  • Proficiency within the Microsoft Office suite and savviness in assessing, adopting, and using relevant business and collaboration platforms for operational effectiveness 
  • High sense of ownership/responsibility, attention to detail 
  • Client service acumen, and  
  • Ability to help build a culture of engagement to support the execution of CRIN’s vision 

 Preference for:  

  • Additional experience in clean technology development or other natural resource industries 
  • Bilingual in English / French 

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information: 

  • You will be expected to contribute to and agree upon working norms, including workdays and location, etc. The role will be centred out of Calgary with a combination of remote work and work in an office environment located in downtown Calgary as permitted by local regulations to work together and leverage shared-services and expertise from other organizations. There may also be some irregular hours throughout the week including weekends (event-specific activities). Travel within Canada may be required for meetings and / or event-specific activities according to travel policies and procedures.
